「HELLOふらプリ」、今回は『風のガーデン ヘッドガーデナーに密着 Professional Works』と題し、ガーデナーの仕事を紹介します！
Hello, everyone!
We show you how gardeners work throughout a year entitled as “Professional Works” this time.
We closely covered the senior gardener of Kaze no Garden.
Let’s have a look at the professional works of a gardener.
2008年、脚本家：倉本聰氏のテレビドラマ「風のガーデン」の舞台となった、プリンスグランドリゾート富良野の『風のガーデン』。
ドラマの舞台となったここは、旭川のガーデナー：上野砂由紀さんによる設計のもと、2年を費やし完成しました。
開園から15年、そのガーデンを今も守り、育て続けるガーデナーたち。
その仕事をご覧ください。
“Kaze no Garden” was the setting of a drama called “Kaze no Garden” written by So Kuramoto in 2008, a famous Japanese script writer.
This garden was designed by Ms.Sayuki Ueno who works as a gardener in Asahikawa, Hokkaido.
It had taken about 2 years to be completed.
Its gardeners have been taking care of it since it opened.

3月
雪どけの季節が来ると、ガーデナーの仕事が始まります。
標高の高い『風のガーデン』の雪どけはゆっくり。
3月初旬はまだまだ雪に覆われています。
『風のガーデン』のヘッドガーデナーは、六条 幸乃（ろくじょう ゆきの）。
雪の下に眠る宿根草を想いながら、まずはデスクで次のシーズンのプランを練ります。
Gardeners start working in March when the snow starts melting.
The senior gardeners of “Kaze no Garden” is Ms. Yukino Rokujyo.
At first, she makes a plan for the next season while thinking of perennial plants under the snow.
4月初旬
スタッフミーティングで、今シーズンのプランを共有。
ガーデンでは、枯れ枝を切るところから始まります。
寒さが戻る日も多く、一進一退の富良野の春。
それでも着実に芽吹きの春が近づいてきています。
The beginning of April.
She shares her garden plan with all workers at the meeting.
The first thing to do is to cut dead branches.
It is not always warm weather in spring in Furano.
Even so, trees and plants start shooting up.
5月のガーデンは、少しずつグリーンに。
色々な種類の球根花が咲き、GWを過ぎる頃には山桜も咲きます。
多くの木々も芽吹く頃。
春を感じるのは動物も一緒です。
周囲をカラマツ林に囲まれた『風のガーデン』は常に自然と共存、シカやキツネなどの動物も暮らしています。
ガーデンが眠る夜、動物たちは柔らかく美味しい新芽を食べ、
翌朝、開花を心待ちにしていたガーデナーたちが肩を落とすこともしばしば・・・
It turns green slowly in May.
Various kinds of bulbous plants bloom and also wild cherry blossoms bloom after GW holidays which is the middle of May.
Animals are expecting spring too.
The garden is surrounded by larch forest in which deer and foxes live.
It sometimes happens that animals eat buds at night which make gardeners very disappointed.
「この頃、ガーデンではエリアの端から順に草を抜きます。花が育つのと同じようにどんどん草も育ちます。
この時を逃すと手が入れられなくなるのでタイミングを逃さず黙々と。ガーデナーにとって草との勝負どころでもあります。」
と語るヘッドガーデナー。
多くのお客さまに美しいガーデンを届けるための静かな作業が続きます。
The senior gardener said
‘ We dig up weeds from the edge of the garden in order. Weeds grow the same as flowers.
If we miss this season, we cannot get rid of them properly. Therefore, we just keep doing it. It is like a battle against weeds.’
They work hard to show their guests a beautiful garden.
6月
「薔薇の庭」では、虫に食われた薔薇の枝をカットします。
より美しい薔薇の姿を楽しんでいただくために。
「手入れをしながら、芽が出ていたり蕾をつけているのを見た時も嬉しいですし、
思ったように咲いてくれ、お客さまが喜んでくださっている姿を見るのもとても嬉しいですね。」
In June
They cut branches eaten by insects in a rose garden.
They would like you to see the roses in the best condition so that make it better.
‘We are happy to find buds putting out while caring as well as to see our guests smile.’
7月
『風のガーデン』がもっとも賑やかな季節。
グリーンに溢れ、次々と開花する色とりどりの花々で満たされます。
この時季、草花の背丈もぐんと伸び、ガーデナーの姿も隠れてしまうほどに。
たくさんのお客さまが訪れる時期でもあり、
ガーデナーは早朝から花殻を摘み整え、草花と追いかけっこの毎日を過ごします。
In July
This is the season, the busiest garden you can see.
There are full of green and lots of colorful flowers bloom one after another.
This is the season when flowers and plants grow the most. Some of them grow taller than gardener’s height.
As you know, many guests visit here in summer.
Gardeners rush to pick waste flowers and dead weeds everyday.
8月
2021年、2022年、コロナ禍であっても草花はいつもと変わらず成長し、花を咲かせます。
外出規制がかかり訪れるお客さまも減少、その中でもガーデンを守り続けるガーデナーたち。
美しく華やかなガーデンの姿を一人でも多くの方に届けたいとの思いから、ガーデンのライブ配信を行いました。
ヘッドガーデナーの六条がガーデナーを代表し、『風のガーデン』のツアーガイドを務めました。
In August
Plants and flowers still have grown and bloomed during the coronavirus pandemic.
The number of guests has been decreasing due to a ban on going outside. Even so, the gardeners keep caring.
They started streaming live video, hoping that as many people as possible could watch our beautiful garden.
Ms.Rokujo, the senior gardener, guided as a representative of Kaze no Garden.
「7月から8月にかけてもっとも華やかな風のガーデンをお楽しみいただけるよう、数回に渡りライブ配信を行いました。
小雨に見舞われた日もありましたが、リアルなガーデンの様子を遠方のお客さまにもご覧いただくことができ、
ガーデナーとしてもとても嬉しく、楽しい体験でした。」
‘ We had streamed live videos a few times from July to August because it is the best season for enjoying the garden.
It was a great experience for me to stream a live video.
We managed to show people who live far away how the garden goes.’
8月も半ばを過ぎると、朝晩は気温が下がる富良野。
ガーデンの様子も少しずつ変化します。
The temperature goes down in Furano after the middle of August.
The situation of the garden changes little by little.
9月
盛夏とは違うシックな色に包まれる頃。
この時季はたくさんのシードヘッドをご覧いただけます。
まだまだ秋の花も咲き、同時に紅葉や落葉を始める木々もちらほら。
落ち着いたガーデンをお楽しみいただけます。
In September
The color is going to be totally different from the mid summer.
You will enjoy watching many kinds of seed heads as well as flowers blooming in fall and colorful autumn leaves.
10月 11月
『風のガーデン』の開園は10月半ばまで。
閉園後は、来シーズンに向けての準備が始まります。
雪の季節を迎えるために、お客さまの姿のないこの時期もガーデナーの仕事はまだまだ続きます。
宿根草の刈り取り、薔薇の木の結束、雪囲いなど冬を迎える準備を整えます。
そしてこの頃になると十勝岳も初冠雪を迎えます。
In October and November
“Kaze no Garden” opens until the middle of October.
They start preparing for the next season after it closes.
Gardeners keep working for winter like cutting perennial plants, tieing roses and covering plants to protect from snow
even when there are no visitors.
You can also see the first snowfall on Mt. Tokachi this time of year.
「木々の葉を落とし、枝を一つに結び、冬囲いをし、雪の重みで枝が折れてしまわないように整えます。
11月に入ると雪がちらつく日も。ガーデナーはしっかり冬の装いで仕事に取り組みます。
雪が降り積もる前にやらなければならないことが終わるとほっとします。
気温も低く、曇り空の多い中での作業は続きますが、寂しい気持ちにはなりません。
また来年、綺麗に咲いてくれることが分かっているので。」
’We cut down leaves, tie branches , and cover plants to protect from snow.
Organizing all the plants to be ready for winter is an important thing for us.
It sometimes snows in November so we put winter clothes on to do them.
We feel relieved when it’s done before snow piles up.
We don’t feel bad even if it is cold and cloudy because we know we can see beautiful flowers
that are going to bloom next year again.’
ガーデナーとは
「子供を育てる親のような気持ちになる職業かもしれないですね。
雪がとけて芽が出るところからどんどん成長していって、花を咲かせ、種になるまで見届ける。
親や保母さんのような気持ちでいます。
『風のガーデン』は宿根草がメインのガーデンとして、どの季節も楽しんでいただきたいと思っています。
それぞれの花の特徴や個性、移り変わりも含めて花が咲く前も、花が終わった後も、全てを楽しんでいただきたいです。
オープンからクローズまで、ぜひ色々な季節にいらしてください。
毎年工夫を重ねて変化し、毎年を最高にしたい！
そんな気持ちで取り組んでいます。
少しでも多くの方に楽しんでいただけるガーデンづくりをしていきたいです。

What is a gardener?
‘I think it is like parenting.
We keep looking after all the plants from sprouting to becoming seeds.
We feel like being parents or nursery teachers.
“ Kaze no Garden’ is mainly planted with perennial plants.
The garden has different faces depending on seasons so we would like everyone to enjoy each season.
We work hard every year and year to make it the best.
This year, we arranged a plan called ‘ private breakfast in breathtaking scenery’ available for a limited time.
We look forward to seeing all of you.’

ガーデナーの仕事はもう始まっています。

Gardeners have already started working, hoping as many guests as possible can take a walk around in the garden.
Please talk to gardeners without hesitating when you see them.
木々に囲まれた特別な空間『風のガーデン』。
春も夏も秋も、それぞれに美しい姿を見せます。
ウッドチップが敷かれた美しい小道を歩き、ぜひ散策してみてください。
‘Kaze no Garden’, which is surrounded by trees.
Each season has different beautiful scenery.
Please walk around on the path which was maintained by wood chips.
新富良野プリンスホテルから『風のガーデン』へは、受付を済ませ送迎車に乗って森の中を進むこと約4分。
もちろん、歩いて向かうこともできます。
It takes approximately 4 minutes from the Shin Furano Prince Hotel by the transportation car provided.
Please check in first before you take.
And of course, you can travel on foot.
オススメは「モーニングガーデン」（7月1日～8月31日）♪
前日までに予約を済ませ、早朝、爽やかな空気を感じながらガーデンを散策することができます。
One recommendation is “Morning Garden” (July 1 – August 31)
If you reserve by the day before, you can appreciate the garden walk while feeling the refreshing air in the early morning.
夏の『風のガーデン』 450品種 およそ2万株の花々が咲き、背丈ほどに成長した緑に囲まれる。
In the summer, over 450 different types of flowers, over 20,000 flowers bloom, and many green plants that grow as high as human height.
